Why Train?

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 states:

That every employer shall ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken.

This quote is fundamental to understanding the importance of quality training for employees within an organisation. If in the unfortunate event of an incident the Health & Safety Executive may bring a prosecution to court if there is reason to believe inadequate training [in line with any of the appropriate ACOPS i.e. PUWER and LOLER] was not provided, this could invalidate your company insurance, with the directors ultimately found personally liable. The potential for adverse publicity, should a company be convicted, and the subsequent loss of goodwill and business should be deterrent enough to ensure that good standards of training are maintained.
